THE THUMBS UP... FROM MARTIN SHAW, AMONG OTHERS!

We've been delighted with the response to our last blog and BoojaBubble article, asking what you think about our new flavours and new ranges. It's great to hear that we're making so many people so happy!!!

Here are just some of the lovely comments we've received, kicking off with a few words from the wonderful Martin Shaw (aka TV's Judge John Deed & Inspector Gently)...

Delicious.  As a vegan it's a rare treat to safely indulge in truffles!
Martin Shaw (TV star & Booja-Booja fan)

Heaven on earth!... I have fallen in love with Booja Booja, not only is the taste incredible, far far superior to any chocolate I've tasted before, the health benfits allow me a non-guilty pleasure... roll on Christmas - I'm getting my stocking stuffed with Booja Booja!
Caroline (Booja-Booaj fan)

The Gourmet Selection is immense. I wanted to gobble the whole box in one, yet at the same time eat every morsel so slowly so that I could really taste every single bit. Their picture should be in the dictionary under "Divine"Nes (Booja-Booja fan)

You make my life sooooo happy-vegan gluten free perfection. Your chocolates and desserts are simply the nicest in the world.
Jayne (Booja-Booja fan)

I've also tried your rum-sozzled sultana ones... they are DELICIOUS - I love love love the naughty boozy hit!... You've definitely made us very happy with your delicious selection of new flavours, and just by generally existing...

Have YOU tried our new truffles yet? Do let us know what you think. It's easy, just leave a comment here, visit our Facebook page or email info@boojabooja.com
We'd love to hear from you!

TELL US WHAT YOU THINK...
AND
YOU COULD BE A WINNER!

Our brand new Chocolate Truffle boxes are now 'out there' in the big wide world... and we're feeling a bit like parents waiting at the gate after the first day of school... we'd like to know how they're getting on, what sort of impression they've made and whether they've got any new friends!

So if you've revelled in the richness of Rum Sozzled Sultana, bamboozled yourself with Banoffee Toffee or gone gleeful over a Gourmet Selection we'd like to hear from you.

Please tell us what you think - about our new look, new boxes and of course our new truffles themselves.

Long or short, good or bad, we really do want to know what you think and to prove it we'll pick one winner from everyone who emails us with their feedback before Sunday 6th November and send them a gorgeous Gourmet Selection.

It couldn't be simpler. Just email: info@boojabooja.com with the subject heading My Thoughts about Booja-Booja today. Go on, we can't wait to hear what you've got to say...

CHOLESTEROL & REFINED SUGAR:
THE FACTS BEHIND OUR LABELS...

As you may be aware, we have carried the wording ‘cholesterol free’ on our chocolate and alternative to dairy ice cream packaging in the past. We began removing this wording in September 2011.

Although it is an undisputed fact that all of our products are ‘cholesterol free’, using this wording is not currently a supported claim in the eyes of The East of England Trading Standards Association Food Group, as sufficient research has not been carried out to allow this wording to be used. This means that using the wording ‘cholesterol free’ is not permitted, even if you can prove that it is a fact.

We always endeavour to be as honest and transparent as possible, and only want to use approved wording, so we are in the process of taking this statement off of our packaging and other materials.

Please be aware however, that there has been no change to our products; they are still dairy free, contain the same ingredients and contain no cholesterol.

Similarly, we used to have the wording ‘no added sugar’ on our alternative to dairy ice cream packaging, as well as on our Raspberry and Dark Ecuadorian chilled truffles. This wording was used to try to communicate that there is no refined sugar added to the products, and only agave syrup is used to sweeten them.

Having had this wording checked, it is not a complaint phrase to use, so we have therefore begun adding new wording to these products. You will start to see ‘made without refined sugars’ on the front and back of the Raspberry and Dark 2 truffle boxes soon.

Again, please be assured that we have made no changes to these products, but are ensuring that we are using the most appropriate wording possible to describe the special features of our products.

THE FOUR CORNERS COLLECTION

FOUR CORNERS: A NEW LOOK AND 3 DELICIOUS
NEW FLAVOURS!

We are delighted to announce the re-launch of our original truffle range to feature a brand new look, new box sizes and 3 scrumptious new flavours.

The new Four Corners Collection marks an exciting new chapter in the life of The Booja-Booja Company, bringing together an elegant house style and minimal approach to packaging that we've been developing gradually over the past couple of years.

In keeping with the range’s name, The Four Corners Collection features beautifully designed square boxes, replacing the round wooden boxes we've been using since our launch in 2000. The new look echoes that of Booja-Booja Champagne Truffle boxes and the Chilled Range launched in 2008.

The new, square boxes enable us to cut down on the amount of packaging used while increasing the amount which is easily recyclable. The new design also enables easier flavour differentiation within the range and is a more ‘shelf-friendly’ shape for stockists.

Each box in the Four Corners Collection contains 9 truffles of a single flavour. There are 5 varieties in the range: existing customer favourites Around Midnight Espresso and Hazelnut Crunch Truffles, all new Rum Sozzled Sultana and Banoffee Toffee Truffles plus Stem Ginger – a non-alcohol replacement for our Ginger Wine Truffles.

This exciting re-launch has come about following an extensive customer consultation, which revealed that new packaging was number one on the wish-list of many Booja-Booja lovers. Booja-Booja products are sold in independent retailers - delicatessens, farm shops, health food shops and gift shops - rather than supermarkets, enabling us to build personal relationships with our stockists and through them find out what our consumers really want.

Marketing Manager Emma Cruikshank explains,

“We’re really excited about the re-launch, the new look and the gorgeous new flavours and we hope that our customers will be really pleased too. It’s great to have been able to act on feedback from the people who really matter, the people who sell, buy and eat our chocolates!”

Four Corners not only describes the stylish square box but the origin of the truffles’ ingredients, meticulously sourced by us from across the globe, to ensure that every mouthful is a delight.  Only the very finest, natural and organic ingredients go into Booja-Booja truffles and we are committed to forging positive, long-lasting relationships with all our suppliers. Every ingredient is rigorously researched and tested to ensure that the final product has the perfect balance of taste and texture.

The Four Corners Collection will be available in independent retailers across the UK and Ireland from the middle of September. For stockist details and more information visit www.boojabooja.com

He's told us that in his household our "truffles elicit the sort of excitement only seen at football matches", which given the passion and drama of Norwich City's last season is high praise indeed!

Original Range Product Withdrawal

Many apologies that you haven't been able to get hold of our Original Truffle Range due to our allergy alert and product withdrawal.

We want to give you an update on what we have been working on here with regards to the recent product withdrawal and allergy alert that we have experienced. We are doing everything we can to allow us to re-launch our Original Truffle Range with their dairy free status.  In order for us to be able to do this, we have been researching alternative chocolate suppliers who are able to maintain and guarantee that they can supply us with chocolate which is dairy free. Currently we have one supplier who we are hopeful will be able to fulfil our needs, but we are still gathering all of the relevant information we need in order to make a final decision on using this company and therefore remaining dairy free.

All being well, we should be able to give you a further update on this at the end of this week or early next week.  As soon as we are able to, we will let you know what the final outcome on the Original Truffle Range is for us.

Remember that our delicious Alternative to Dairy Ice Cream and our delectable Raspberry and Dark Ecuadorian Truffles are still available and are NOT affected by the recent allergy alert.

ALLERGY ALERT
Traces of Milk
26TH MAY 2011

Hazelnut Crunch; Around Midnight Espresso; Ginger Wine; Cognac Banana and Champagne Truffles.

All pack sizes and selection boxes containing these truffles.
The Booja-Booja Company has identified that some of the above products may contain traces of milk.   This has been caused by an error at our chocolate supplier.  A proportion of a batch of chocolate that they produced contains traces of milk that risk causing allergic reaction amongst consumers with a milk allergy.
There have been no consumer incidents but as a precautionary measure all of these products are being withdrawn from sale. We ask customers with a milk allergy not to consume these products.
We are alerting consumers via allergy sites as well as our own website and social media. We would like to stress that all of our actions are precautionary.

Our production facilities remain dairy free and our Vegan Society Status is not affected. All of our products including those we have identified as containing traces of dairy continue to be Vegan and carry the Vegan Society logo.
Our Raspberry and Dark Ecuadorian Truffles and our Alternative to Dairy Ice Cream are not affected and continue to be dairy free.
The Booja-Booja Company apologises to our customers for any disappointment and inconvenience caused. Please rest assured that we are doing our utmost to effectively address this situation and we remain committed to creating delicious, wholesome, dairy free, organic chocolates and 'ice cream'.

BEHIND THE LABEL...
WHY OUR ECUADORIAN TRUFFLES ARE UNIQUE
The raw chocolate used in our Dark and Raspberry organic truffles is made by our friends at family owned Pacari Chocolate in Ecuador. This chocolate was the first ever chocolate to be produced by cacao farmers in Ecuador and it is a result of five years joint product development and cooperation.
Pacari Chocolate is a family-owned company built on strong socially and environmentally sustainable principles. Its founders Santiago Peralta and Carla Barboto have always been keen to ensure that what they do and the products they make support their local community and the land it farms. They are dedicated to the organic way and to preserving Ecuador’s prestigious native Arriba Nacional cacao; their chocolate is single-origin, made from this, the very finest of cocoa beans.
Booja-Booja and Pacari have been working together for more than five years, getting to know one another, learning to understand each other’s principles and discovering a shared passion for quality, sustainability and fairness. The exciting and innovative partnership that now exists is the fruit of many hours of discussion and plans, visits both ways and much painstaking joint research and investment.
Pacari only works with small scale cacao farmers, supporting their sustainable farming methods and paying them a premium above the market rate. Small scale farming protects the genetic diversity of Ecuadorian cacao. Unlike plantation production it allows for cross pollination which strengthens the cacao trees and makes them less susceptible to plague and disease. Over many years Santiago and Carla have built up solid, trusted relationships with the farmers who live in their local area and who are the guardians of Ecuador’s precious native cacao.

Like our friends at Pacari we at Booja-Booja are obsessed with quality and we didn’t launch our Ecuadorian Truffles until we were fully satisfied with the consistent quality of the chocolate being made by our partners in Ecuador. This high quality is achieved by producing the chocolate in small batches and using only carefully selected ingredients. The chocolate is made using only Arriba Nacional cacao, which is native to Ecuador and renowned for its full taste, complex, fruity and floral notes. We have relished the challenge of taking this fine chocolate and turning it into the mouth-watering truffles you enjoy today.

This is why we believe our Ecuadorian Truffles – the silky smooth Dark Ecuadorian and the fabulously fruity Raspberry Ecuadorian – are so very special. They really are a dream come true! There have been numerous hurdles to cross along the way and many challenges to overcome but that’s what you expect when you’re in uncharted territory, working to achieve something nobody’s ever done before. We all had our hearts set on reaching our goal and in the end our determination, focus and passion has paid off. We are delighted to have found such great partners in Pacari Chocolate, we love our Ecuadorian Truffles and we hope you do too!

Should we change our 500ml 'Ice Cream' tubs?

We have to make a decision by tomorrow as to whether we are re-branding our current 'ice cream' tubs or keeping them thesame for approximatley another year.
We will be keeping the size and type of tub and lid the same but could change anything to do with the artwork on the tub...

Would you like to see an image of some scoops of the 'ice cream' on the front of the tub?
Would you like to see a different colour theme overall on the tubs?
Would you like to see different text on the front of the tubs?
What information about our 'ice cream' is the most important to you?
What makes an 'ice cream' tub eye catching to you?

Please leave any feedback you have as a comment to help us make a decision!!

Thank you very much :)

NEW LIFE FOR OLD TUBS...

We recently faced a bit of a conundrum… what to do with several thousand unused ‘ice cream’ tubs which were no longer useful for production because they contained outdated information and artwork. Then Tina, our Quality Control Supervisor, had a great idea… why not give them away to local schools to use for arts and crafts activities?

So, off we went in search of interested recipients and were delighted to find no less than 13 schools and one play therapist more than happy to take our ‘useless’ packaging and give it a new lease of life!

We have now donated something in the region of 4000 old, unused ice cream tubs and 6000 lids to a the schools and organisations listed below. This packaging was out of date and destined for the dump but will now be painted, cut-up, glued and glittered instead, which is excellent news for the schools, their children and the environment.

We’ll be keeping in touch with the schools and will hopefully be able to report back soon with news of exactly what our old tubs have been turned in to!

Good luck and happy creating to the children at:

The Claire School, Norwich
Alderman Swindell Infant School, Gt Yarmouth
Corton Primary School
Wroughton Infants, Gorleston
St Margaret’s Infants, Lowestoft
Herman Primary, Gorleston
St Nicholas Nursery, Gt Yarmouth
Hillside Primary, Bradwell
St Marys R.C School, Gorleston
Cliff Park High School, Gorleston
Southtown First School, Gt Yarmouth
Priory First School, Gt Yarmouth
Ormsby Middle School
